Almost doesn't count
I definitely would have been a groupie...

“I definitely would have have been a Temptations groupie.”
, those were the exact words that slipped out of my mouth midway through watching Ain’t too Proud to Beg: The Life and Times of the Temptations. My row mate, a stranger who shared my sentiments, eagerly agreed.
The sounds, the moves, the swag…All of it would have rendered me defenseless and the show captured it all exquisitely.
But the Broadway hit did more than allowed me to come to this ground breaking conclusion. It got me thinking about ownership.
As I watched these men, who seemed to have it all ultimately lose everything, I wondered why they had to keep up the hustle. Even when touring was tearing their worlds apart, they felt like they had no choice. They had obligations and limitations that dictated how they moved in a world they helped create.
In the end, despite their amazing leadership as creators, they lacked ownership. They lacked control. And ultimately, they lacked a level of freedom.
Pause.
Take that in and ask yourself, where am I subject to another’s control —despite my leadership— as a result of my lack of ownership?

I know that’s deep, but ownership really is that deep.
It’s not something I can take lightly. I think we have a world that is built on a system that keeps people from owning what they create. For many professionals, there are environments that love to see people create, but hate to see them own.
But guess what? We’re not about that here. We are about owning what we create.
That’s honestly why I do this.
I see so many of you doing the hard work of building businesses and brands. I’m here to help you protect them.
So reply to this email, and drop me a line telling me about what you create and what you hope to own.

P.S. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the next Ask Temi Live Virtual Event. It’s Tuesday, September 5th at 7 pm CT.
P.P. S. Two things you might enjoy:
1) A short recap of the Fearless Fund Venture Capital Summit and
2) A new video on Youtube. It includes a sneak peak of an awesome course I created called, Elevate Your Business and Brand.
Let me know what you think!!
